Turkey - The Cultural Bridge Between Asia and Europe

Turkey, the bridge between Asia and Europe, has plenty of ethnic diversity due to thousands of years of immigrations. Much like the United States, the country has been through many waves of immigration.

Turks make up about 80% of the population. The rest are mostly Kurds, although in Istanbul there are significant populations of Greek and Roma. There are also numerous minority populations of Caucasians, Europeans, and Arabs.

Turks: Turks define themselves by a common culture. They descended from nomadic tribes such as the Mongols and the Huns. After working with Arab armies, they converted to Islam in the 9th and 10th centuries.

There are three main groups of Turks: Anatolian Turks, the most prominent; Rumelian Turks, and Central Asian Turks. Their ethnicities are defined by paths of immigration.

Anemurium, Turkey

Located on the southernmost point of Asia Minor opposite Cyprus, Anemurium flourished as a small Roman town from the first through the seventh century C.E.

UBC’s investigation of the site, begun in 1970, uncovered much of the civic centre, including three public baths, theatre, town hall (basilica) and council chamber, as well as several early Christian churches and selected tombs in the city’s spacious cemetery.

Many of the buildings were adorned with colourful mosaic pavement and wall paintings which have required careful conservation.

From the pottery, glass, coins, including examples minted locally, and the numerous minor objects found during excavation, the U.B.C. team was able to shed much light on the daily lives of the inhabitants.

SEASONS IN TURKEY

For meteorologists, Turkey has seven unique climatic locales, yet from the perspective of most cool guests, the most critical qualifications are between the coast with its direct winter temperatures and hot, moist summers, and the inland territories with their amazingly frosty winters and unreasonably hot summers.

Spring (April to May) and harvest time (September to October) are the best times to visit, since the atmosphere will be ideal for touring in Istanbul and on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, and it will be cool in focal Anatolia.

On the off chance that your essential drive is for shoreline mooching, mid-May to September is ideal for the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, if a bit steamy out of the water.
